Just one day after Apple upgraded its Mac OS X operating system, an exploit code targeting vulnerabilities in the new version was released.
According to security experts, the exploit takes advantage of a vulnerability known as “launchd” within the operating system. Through this exploit, attackers can execute binary code with elevated privileges.
On June 17, Apple released the Mac OS X 10.4.7 upgrade to add new features and fix five vulnerabilities. However, just one day later, exploit codes began to surface that targeted this upgrade.
Ironically, the exploit was released by Kevin Finisterre, a security expert at Digital Munition. Earlier this year, Finisterre also created the Inqtana worm targeting Mac OS X, which spread across the network exploiting a vulnerability in the operating system’s Bluetooth software.
