Sun and wind can be a disadvantage in the Central region, but a resident of Tuy Hoà City, Phu Yen Province, has turned this disadvantage into an advantage by creating a water pump that operates solely on wind power.
The idea of harnessing the power of wind has been with Mr. Pham Ma Nhi for the past three years.
According to his design, a water pipe is connected from the irrigation ditch to the device. When the wind blows, the fan spins, and water from the ditch is pumped up. The fan, which is 1 meter long, converts wind energy into the force needed to pump water. Testing has shown that the pump can draw water from a well with a depth of 7 meters.
Currently, Mr. Nhi is considering solutions to enhance the quality of the water pump while still lowering the production costs. It is anticipated that each unit can be produced at a cost of approximately 2 million VND. This product will be particularly useful for the need for efficient irrigation in farms and fields that are exposed to strong winds year-round.
