An infrared camera captured images of a rare white deer, described by netizens as “full of celestial energy”, in the pristine forest located in Muli County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China.
According to local media, members of the Wildlife Protection Association in Muli County obtained a valuable 20-second video showing a rare white deer walking in the primary forest at an altitude of 2,800 meters.
Experts in zoology confirmed that this is a white-skin deer, also known as a white albino deer, which is a Class II protected wildlife species in China. This is the first time such a special white deer has been spotted in Muli.
Rare white deer image causing excitement among many people.
In the circulated images, the white deer can be seen slowly walking past the camera, occasionally looking around cautiously. It even glanced directly into the camera for a few seconds before moving on, creating an incredibly memorable moment.
Normally, white-skin deer have brown fur in the summer and black fur in the winter. The white coloration of this deer is believed to be due to a genetic mutation, a phenomenon that is extremely rare.
In Chinese culture, the white deer is considered a “spiritual beast” or “divine beast” that brings good omens. It is closely associated with the deities of Happiness, Wealth, and Longevity, as well as the mythical creature, the qilin. According to legend, those fortunate enough to see the divine white deer will encounter luck, blessings, wealth, and longevity.
This discovery holds significant importance for wildlife conservation efforts, bringing hope for biodiversity in the Muli primary forest area, and it has made the local community immensely joyful. They believe the white deer will bring blessings to the locality.
In addition to the white deer, the infrared camera at the observation point has also captured images of several other rare animal species, including black bears, Chinese long-haired antelopes, and wolves.
