With the “Interactive Multi-Mode Chat TV” system, Microsoft envisions a wondrous world where, while watching TV, you can select links displayed on the screen to access various applications. For instance, you could enter a chat room to discuss the program currently airing.
In other words, computers have met television.
The TV screen and chat interface would appear as different frames on the same screen, allowing you to focus on both without straining to watch two screens at once.
What makes this patent even more exciting is that it is entirely feasible. This idea isn’t overly bold or revolutionary; it’s just a matter of time before Microsoft breathes life into it, turning it into a tangible product.
Analysts suggest that future versions of Windows Media Center will integrate this technology, and when that happens, we will all enjoy the convenience it brings.
However, if not handled carefully, this could also turn into a nightmare, as you might be watching TV while someone insists on interrupting you to chat. That could be quite annoying, right?
