In recent years, Vietnamese photographers have become bolder in submitting their personal works to international competitions and forums. These victories bring achievements and recognition to the individual authors, but more importantly, they affirm the position of Vietnamese photography, showcasing the nation’s image to the world. An undeniable truth is that Vietnam boasts stunning landscapes, people, culture, and customs. The beauty spans across regions and history, captured through the eyes of artists and disseminated through photography, the internet, and the media.
A work by a Vietnamese photographer recently won first place in the national category of the Sony World Photography Awards 2022 (SWA). This is the photo “Bicycle and Flowers” by photographer Nguyễn Phúc Thành, taken in November 2021 on the Hanoi Ceramic Road.
Over 550 photographers from 65 countries and territories participated in this competition. The winning works were honored by the judges according to national and regional awards. Sharing about his work, photographer Nguyễn Phúc Thành stated: “I spent my weekends following street vendors and observing them walking and cycling throughout the day to capture photos. This is one of my favorite moments.”
Upon learning about the award-winning photo, many Vietnamese expressed their joy and pride: “What a brilliant capture of a moment,” “The theme of Vietnamese people has recently won major awards,” “So beautiful, truly Hanoi,” “No need for grand shots; small moments often tell the biggest stories”…
