Over 200 Paleolithic Sites Discovered in Sichuan Province, Southwest China Since 2019.
Xinhua News reported that the discovery of more than 200 Paleolithic sites in China is the result of a comprehensive archaeological survey conducted since 2019.
This information was announced at a seminar held in the city of Miyi, Sichuan on November 18.
Before 2019, Chinese archaeologists had only identified over 10 Paleolithic sites in Sichuan.
At the 200 sites discovered, many stone tools and human remains have been excavated. These sites are scattered across the Sichuan Basin and the western Sichuan Plateau.

The sites include: The Mengxihe Site in Ziyang City, The Taohuahe Site in Suining City, and The Wangjiayan Site in Chengdu.
Expert Zheng Zhexuan from the Sichuan Institute of Archaeology and Cultural Relics stated that these discoveries indicate that as early as the Paleolithic period, Sichuan was an important area for cultural exchanges and population migrations between the East and West, as well as between the northern and southern regions of China.
