According to scientists from the University of London, environmental pollution and rising temperatures are among the key factors contributing to reduced human lifespan.
Statistics indicate that in 2003, Europe experienced 27,000 deaths attributed to heatwaves.
Of these, 14,000 deaths occurred in France. In the UK, 2,000 individuals lost their lives due to this cause, with 85% of them being over the age of 75. For those aged 65, the mortality rate gradually increases as temperatures exceed 18°C (in Europe).
Scientists further explain that high temperatures at the beginning of summer tend to have more severe effects than those later in the season, as the human body has already acclimatized to the environment by then.
According to Professor Bill Keatinge, the primary culprit behind elevated temperatures that humans struggle to endure is ozone, along with emissions from factories, dust particles, and sulfur dioxide.
