Nuclear energy generated from reactors is used for various purposes, with the most prominent application being electricity production. There are several ways to obtain nuclear energy, such as nuclear fusion, nuclear fission, and radioactive decay.
Currently, nuclear energy accounts for nearly 24.9% of primary energy and about 10% of the total electricity generated worldwide through nuclear reactions.
Several nuclear power plants are currently operational around the world, with many more under construction. The total number of operational nuclear plants worldwide is 441, and there are up to 54 plants being built. In the United States, nuclear power is considered the cleanest energy source, generating approximately 800 billion kWh of electricity annually.
