For many years, local residents have steered clear of this mysterious pit out of fear that mythical figures like Jinns or genies could reside within.
The giant pit, officially named Barhout Well, was explored by a team of eight adventurers last week. Kindi, one of the first to descend, remarked that it was a completely different experience, according to The Sun.

He stated: “Our passion drove us to do this, and we felt that beneath the pit lies a new wonder and a part of Yemen’s history.”
“We collected samples of water, rocks, soil, and some dead animals, but we haven’t analyzed them yet.”
Kindi added: “There were dead birds, which created a foul odor, but overall it was bearable.”
Officials in Yemen stated they are unaware of what lies in the giant pit as no one has ever descended to the bottom.
“We have gone deep into the well, about 50-60 meters”, said Salah Babhair, the director general of the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority of Mahra, in June 2021.
“We noticed something strange inside, and there was a very peculiar smell… This is a very mysterious place!”
Some believe that the well is actually a volcano that could erupt one day, although there is no scientific evidence to support this theory.
