The owner of a litter of puppies was astonished to discover one of them had green fur, reminiscent of Princess Fiona’s skin tone in the animated film “Shrek.”
“Our green puppy is truly rare. I hope this fur color lasts forever. It looks so cool!” shared Audra Mosher, the Canadian owner of the green dog, on Facebook.
The new litter of Bulldog puppies born to Trevor and Audra Mosher consists of 8 puppies, with this green one being the most special. They named her Fiona, after the princess in the film “Shrek.”
The green-furred puppy named Fiona.
A dog born with extremely rare green fur.
Fiona was born in a black amniotic sac, while her siblings were in normal opaque white sacs. Fiona’s unusual green fur color is the result of exposure to biliverdin from bile fluid while she was in her mother’s womb.
Audra and Trevor initially thought Fiona was stillborn until they noticed she was moving.
Trevor shared with Global News: “We dried her off and noticed her green fur. Immediately, I thought something was wrong. So, we posted a photo of her on social media: ‘My puppy is green, what’s going on?’ Clearly, she is very rare and has only been seen a few times around the world.
I am really surprised and feel very lucky to witness and be a part of her life.”
The green color makes Fiona stand out the most in the litter.
Veterinarian Bronwyn Crane stated that the chances of a dog being born with green fur are less than 1 in 10,000. “I have never seen a green puppy before,” she said. However, this color will fade and completely disappear over time.
In 2020, The Sun reported on a white German Shepherd named Gypsy who gave birth to similarly green puppies. Experts say that the unusual color of the puppies could be caused by meconium.
