With the “Multimodal Interactive Chat TV” system, Microsoft has envisioned a wonderful world where while watching TV, you can also select various links displayed on the screen to access different applications. For instance, you could enter a chat room to discuss the show currently airing.
In other words, computers are meeting television.
The TV screen and chat interface would appear as separate frames on the same display, meaning you wouldn’t have to strain to pay attention to both screens at the same time.
What makes this patent even more exciting is that it is entirely feasible. The idea is not overly bold or revolutionary, and it’s only a matter of time before Microsoft can breathe life into it, turning it into a tangible product.
Analysts suggest that in the future, versions of Windows Media Center will integrate this technology, allowing all of us to enjoy its conveniences.
However, if not handled carefully, this could also become a nightmare, as you might be watching TV while someone insists on interrupting you to chat. That could be quite annoying, wouldn’t it?
