Jackfruit is a type of fruit tree with fruits that seem to be the largest among herbaceous plants when ripe. Typically, Vietnamese people are accustomed to oval-shaped jackfruits, measuring between 30 – 60cm in length and 20 – 30cm in width, with a rough skin covered in small spikes.
However, we sometimes encounter oversized jackfruits, measuring about 1 meter in length and having a “elongated” appearance as if they have mutated. So, where do these jackfruits come from?

According to documents, the jackfruit tree is defined as a type of sweet fruit from tropical regions. In temperate areas, jackfruit is often sold canned in syrup, but recently fresh jackfruit has also been imported into the U.S. and Europe.
The ripe jackfruit segments can be eaten fresh and are very sweet due to their high sugar content, including glucose and fructose (10-15%). Besides the basic segment form, jackfruit can also be processed by drying or slicing thinly and frying.
In addition to providing delicious fruit, jackfruit is also a type of timber classified as group IV and is sometimes used to produce musical instruments such as the zither in Indonesia. In Vietnam, jackfruit wood is favored for making religious statues.
