Thousands of people have claimed to have encountered extraterrestrial beings. Recently, a British professor declared that these experiences may simply be the result of false memories, rather than evidence of life in other galaxies.
Professor Chris French, a psychology expert from Goldsmiths, University of London, has studied 19 cases of individuals who claim to be victims of alien abduction. Some reported being pulled from their beds or cars by strange beings approximately 1.2 meters tall, characterized by thin arms and legs and oversized heads. Others recounted undergoing painful health examinations conducted by these extraterrestrial beings, during which their sperm was allegedly extracted.
French explained that many experiences of encounters with extraterrestrials can be attributed to a condition known as sleep paralysis—where an individual wakes up and is aware of their surroundings but is unable to move. “Sleep paralysis often leads to hallucinations, and 40% of us have experienced this sensation at least once in our lives,” French stated.
A rich imagination also plays a role in these accounts. Some of the “victims” of alien encounters tend to embellish their stories, claiming to have seen ghosts or possessing mystical healing abilities.
“There are individuals whose vivid imaginations are so strong that they often confuse what is happening in their minds with what is occurring in the real world,” French revealed during a public seminar at the Natural History Museum in London last week.
