Tropical night is defined as a phenomenon where the lowest temperature in the area remains above 25 degrees Celsius from 6 PM to 9 AM the following day. If the temperature stays above 30 degrees Celsius throughout the night, it is commonly referred to as a “super tropical night.”
According to KMA, both Sokcho and Gangneung experienced the “super tropical night”, with recorded minimum temperatures of 30.6 degrees Celsius and 30.4 degrees Celsius, respectively. In Sokcho alone, this was also the hottest night recorded.
Other major cities in South Korea also experienced sweltering tropical nights, with temperatures in the capital city of Seoul recorded at 27.2 degrees Celsius, Incheon at 26.6 degrees Celsius, Daegu at 26.3 degrees Celsius, and Jeju Island at 26.6 degrees Celsius.
In the capital city of Seoul, Incheon, the southern Gyeonggi Province, and northern Chungcheongbuk Province, scattered rain is expected until the morning of July 30, with anticipated rainfall of 5-10mm. Rain will continue until the end of July 30 in the northern Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province, with expected rainfall of 5-30mm.
Despite the cloudy weather and occasional rain, hot and humid weather will continue to envelop most of the country, with temperatures rising again after the rain subsides. KMA forecasts daily temperatures to fluctuate between 22-29 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs expected to reach 28-36 degrees Celsius, significantly higher than the long-term average.
