On July 25, the UK Home Office committed to implementing border control measures using the “eBorders” electronic system, aimed at monitoring the entry and exit of approximately 90 million people annually into the UK.
Initially, the “eBorders” program will be installed at all border checkpoints across the UK over the next eight years, starting with routes deemed to have the “highest risk” in order to prevent illegal immigration or the presence of individuals who have overstayed their visas in the UK.
The modern technology of the “eBorders” system is set to begin deployment in 2008, but it will take an additional six years before it can be fully operational.
