When Wolfgang “the chubby” was rescued from a shelter in Phoenix, Arizona, Erin McManis, who works at an animal welfare organization, helped the dog regain his “slim” appearance through a diet and exercise regimen. After two years, Wolfgang reduced his weight from over 40 kg to 14.5 kg.
Since the images of his chubby self were shared, Wolfgang quickly became a social media star, even facing “body shaming” as he was compared to pigs. However, Wolfgang has now completely transformed thanks to his successful weight loss.
It is known that Erin and her husband, Chad Schatz, began adopting Wolfgang in May 2019 from the Arizona Beagle Rescue organization in Arizona, USA. At that time, Wolfgang was already a plump dog. The couple had no information about Wolfgang’s previous owner or the reasons behind his obesity, but they had plenty of experience in adopting dogs and helping them lose weight.
Wolfgang’s incredible transformation in appearance.
The veterinarian diagnosed Wolfgang with thyroid disease and prescribed a diet for him, limiting his daily caloric intake to 600 calories. McManis was responsible for preparing Wolfgang’s meals, which consisted of lean chicken and fresh vegetables. Despite adhering to a strict diet, Wolfgang was very obedient and did not beg for additional food between meals. McManis believes that the vegetables helped him feel fuller for longer.
