“Far beyond the horizon, yet close at hand” – the angler found what he sought right at the foot of the dock.
To catch the “big ones,” anglers often choose to venture to remote locations or offshore in the ocean. However, the angler in this story faced multiple failures in his attempts to catch such a fish.
The fishing rod bent under the power of a “monster” below.
But an unexpected event occurred in a place few would anticipate. When this man cast his line right under the dock without needing to go out to sea, the results exceeded all expectations. The fishing rod was bent by the strength of a “monster” lurking beneath the surface.
After considerable effort, he managed to pull it out of the water. It turned out to be a giant grouper (scientific name: Epinephelus itajara) weighing over 45 kg. This species exhibits unpredictable behavior as they can thrive in various environments, including saltwater and brackish waters.
In fact, this fish can inhabit oyster farms in the sea, canals, and mangrove swamps or river estuaries. They can reach lengths of up to 2.5 meters and weigh as much as 363 kg. Due to overfishing, the IUCN recognizes them as a critically endangered species.
