This machine incinerates hundreds of tons of waste neatly without releasing any smoke. It can also filter the suffocating air in crowded markets or “eliminate” the thick black smoke billowing from the chimneys of industrial factories…

This is a dust and exhaust gas treatment technology—a unique invention with high practical application value by a young physician in Hà Tây province.
To see it firsthand, we visited the Hòa Bình General Hospital, where the machine is currently being tested. Mr. Trương Quý Dương, the hospital director, confidently stated, “Indeed, the machine we are using, although it was produced manually, has remarkable functionality.”
Mr. Dương led us to the back of the hospital where the machine was located for observation. The machine is a continuous, closed-loop system that includes an inlet for waste, an exhaust pipe, and filters to process the smoke produced during incineration. While the operating principle of the machine is not complex, it is highly scientific. The combustion system (heated to nearly 2000°C), the smoke propulsion system, and the high-speed rotating filter will capture all the smoke into the lime steam (or diluted soda water), leaving clean gas to rise.
Initially, Mr. Dương was skeptical, so he placed a white towel over the chimney to “test” it. The machine operated continuously for several hours, incinerating tons of waste, and the towel remained pristine without any stains from exhaust emissions.
Pointing to a pile of waste near the fence, about the size of a small table, he proudly shared with us, “This is three tons of medical waste! The hospital collects it every two days for incineration. Previously, it caused pollution in the area, but now the issue has been thoroughly resolved. Implementing this technology in factories and industrial zones will be very beneficial.” Next to where we stood, above the chimney of the machine, fig branches with lush green leaves were still bearing young fruits…
The inventor of this machine is the young physician Nguyễn Đình Loan, who currently resides in Phú Sơn commune (Ba Vì, Hà Tây). Mr. Loan stated that his idea has been around for over 10 years, as he pursued the family tradition of traditional medicine, which necessitated having a medicinal preparation workshop.
He continued, once there is a preparation workshop, a significant amount of coal and wood would be needed to dry the herbs; and drying herbs would produce a lot of smoke, dust, and unpleasant odors, which would adversely affect the health of the local community.
Nguyễn Đình Loan often wandered alone, sometimes standing silently for hours to observe the billowing smoke from textile and chemical factories, then returning home to jot down notes and calculations. Whenever he had spare time outside his duties as a physician, Nguyễn Đình Loan always sought to read chemistry textbooks and collect research articles and environmental journals.
He explained that his work is entirely based on observations from nature. As a practitioner of medicine, the young physician always thinks of his homeland and the healthcare sector first.
Mr. Loan mentioned that he has completed several projects and is eager to share them with relevant authorities and scientists to bring them into practice soon. These include studies on cleaning the Tô Lịch River and lakes in Hanoi using cost-effective methods; solutions for flood prevention and management; and methods for purifying air and fire prevention in crowded, stifling markets…
