The “deceptive” anti-spyware programs refer to those anti-spyware applications that you are forced to install and use.
One example is the program SpyAxe. It is not truly an anti-spyware program. In fact, it is a program installed by spyware that compels you to install its anti-spyware solution in order to escape the infection from the spyware it detects.
To install, you are often required to pay a fee or, more frequently, to watch numerous advertisements compulsorily. We present a list of 10 out of 241 such programs identified in 2005. These are the 10 most “aggressive” programs.
10. Spyware Bomber.
9. SlimShield: stealthily installs, changes your wallpaper, and controls your system.
8. WinAntiVirus and its counterpart WinAntiSpyware 2005: Controls your system, continuously spreads advertisements, and collects personal information.
7. SpywareNo and its clone SpyDemolisher: Installs silently and continuously spreads advertisements.
6. Razespyware, 5. Spy Trooper, 4. WorldAntiSpy, 3. PSGuard, 2. SpySheriff: Installs silently, controls your screen, and spreads advertisements.
1. SpyAxe: Installs silently and deceives users; in fact, it is a type of Trojan that controls your screen and spreads advertisements.
