Edith Murway-Traina, hailing from Tampa, Florida, has been honored as the oldest female weightlifter in the world, revealing one of her health-boosting secrets is to enjoy Martinis every evening.
The Guinness World Records recognized Edith Murway-Traina as the female weightlifter who has been competing the longest in the world just three days before her 100th birthday.
The world’s oldest female weightlifter can lift up to 70 kg. Mrs. Murway was previously a dance teacher. Inspired by a close friend, she developed an interest in weightlifting in the 1990s. She regularly visits the gym and enjoys challenging herself to improve each day.
Born in the Bronx to an Irish mother and a Latvian father, Mrs. Murway-Traina grew up near the Grand Concourse. She held various jobs before retiring, including working as an accountant in the garment industry and as a clerk for Grumman Aerospace, an aircraft manufacturing company…
Her health-boosting secret is enjoying Martinis every evening.
Murway-Traina explained that her friend, Carmen Gutwirth, 77, wanted to start a workout routine to help prevent osteoporosis “but didn’t want to do it alone.”
Therefore, Carmen Gutwirth invited her to the gym to work out together, and Mrs. Murway accepted.
However, in an interview after Mrs. Murway set her record, Carmen Gutwirth asserted that the truth was not quite as Mrs. Murway had described.
Carmen Gutwirth stated: “I didn’t drag her anywhere; she loves working out on her own. She always does extraordinary things, setting records at this age, in the latter half of her life, is truly amazing.”
To this day, despite her age, she continues to train and participate in several competitions. When asked about her secret to maintaining good health and longevity, especially being able to continue competing in weightlifting, Mrs. Murway-Traina said “there’s nothing special,” emphasizing that a consistent daily routine is important.
Despite her age, she continues to train and participate in several competitions.
Mrs. Murway shares that her breakfast must include Geritol and that she drinks Martinis every night, and it is this routine that has helped her achieve this remarkable record.
It is unclear whether Martinis contribute to the health of this elderly woman as she claims, but the fact remains that she has set a Guinness World Record.
Her family members are all proud of her incredible achievement. Gary Murway, her son, who lives in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, stated: “She always inspires and motivates me, whether it’s weightlifting, dancing, or just taking care of the family.”
