According to a survey by comScore Networks (USA), approximately 694 million people aged 15 and older are currently connected to the Internet worldwide. This research firm also considers this the “first accurate statistic on the scale and behavior of the global online community.”
“Currently, Internet users in the United States account for less than a quarter of the total number of Internet users worldwide. This figure was two-thirds a decade ago,” noted Peter Daboll, CEO of comScore Media Metrix.
Despite this, the United States remains the leading country with 152 million online users, followed by China (72 million) and Japan (52 million). Other notable countries include Germany with 32 million Internet users, the United Kingdom (30 million), South Korea (24.6 million), France (23.9 million), Canada (19 million), Italy (16.8 million), and India (16.7 million).
According to a statistic from the Business Software Alliance (BSA), there are currently only about 5 million Vietnamese who use the Internet regularly, primarily at public access points such as Internet cafes.
However, Israelis are the ones who spend the most time browsing the web. On average, they spend about 57.5 hours per month online, double that of Americans. Finland ranks second, followed by South Korea, the Netherlands, and Taiwan. The United States does not even make it to the list of the top 15 countries with the most monthly Internet access hours.
Research from comScore Networks also confirms that Microsoft’s MSN site is the most popular, attracting 538.6 million users, followed by Google (495.8 million) and Yahoo (480.2 million).
