On July 9, the authorities of Nhơn Hải Commune (Quy Nhơn City, Bình Định Province) reported that 17 sea turtles hatched on Nhơn Hải beach last night. These hatchlings are part of the early hatching from 400 eggs laid by a mother turtle.
This sea turtle species is rare and endangered, requiring protection according to the World Wildlife Fund.
Currently, the local community in Nhơn Hải is continuously monitoring the hatching turtles and will return the hatchlings to the sea as soon as possible.
The first hatchlings born in 2024 have brought joy and excitement to the fishing village of Nhơn Hải. This achievement reflects the conservation efforts of the local people, authorities, and organizations.
On the evening of July 8, many locals were delighted to witness the adorable sight of numerous hatchlings crawling clumsily on the beach of Nhơn Hải Commune (Quy Nhơn City, Bình Định Province). These turtles emerged from eggs laid by the mother turtle on May 21.
The first hatchlings born in 2024 have brought joy and excitement to the fishing village of Nhơn Hải.
Immediately after receiving information from the locals, the Nhơn Hải Fisheries Protection Community Group came to inspect and protect the area, as well as assist in releasing the turtles back to the sea.
Nguyễn Tôn Xuân Sáng, a member of the Nhơn Hải Fisheries Protection Community Group, stated that upon discovery, they found 17 hatchlings.
However, according to Sáng’s observations, some turtles may have already made their way to the sea earlier. This morning, officials from the Bình Định Fisheries Department will arrive to check and count the number of eggshells to assess the hatching rate.
Previously, on the night of May 21, a sea turtle measuring 0.94 meters in length and 0.86 meters in width, weighing over 90 kilograms, crawled onto the beach of Nhơn Hải to lay eggs. Subsequently, this turtle returned to the beach to lay eggs three more times in June, totaling approximately 400 eggs.
