On January 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that two patients who were diagnosed with avian influenza in China have died.
The first case involved a 10-year-old girl from Guangxi, who was diagnosed on December 7, and the second case was a 35-year-old man from Jiangxi, diagnosed on December 16.
“This does not mean that the situation of avian influenza in humans is out of control in China,” commented Roy Wadia, WHO spokesperson in Beijing, “But it serves as a reminder that this remains a very dangerous disease.”
