After being transferred to Hoang Lien National Park, 2 out of 4 wallabies captured in Cao Bang province have died.
On December 22, the Hoang Lien Rescue, Conservation, and Development Center (affiliated with Hoang Lien National Park) announced that 2 out of the 4 wallabies captured in Cao Bang province and transferred to the center have died.
Specifically, both deceased wallabies were male; one died on December 8 and the other on December 12. The remaining two are in good health; however, care is challenging due to low temperatures in Sa Pa (Lao Cai) which are dropping significantly.

According to the Hoang Lien Rescue, Conservation, and Development Center, the 2 deceased wallabies exhibited mild stress symptoms upon receipt from the Thach An District Forestry Department of Cao Bang Province, indicating a potential pre-existing illness.
During the quarantine period, both individuals displayed signs of illness such as fatigue, wheezing, and respiratory issues. The center provided treatment, but their condition did not improve.
Currently, these 2 wallabies have been frozen, and there are plans to preserve them for display and research purposes.
Earlier, on November 16, the Hoang Lien Rescue, Conservation, and Development Center received 4 wallaby specimens (scientific name: Notamacropus rufogriseus) from the Thach An District Forestry Department, which had been captured in the wild after being abandoned by smugglers.
