The Robocon Innovation Contest 2006 will feature 220 teams from across the country participating in the preliminary round, with 48 teams selected for the finals to be held in Da Nang from May 29 to June 4. Vietnam will host the Robocon Innovation Contest 2007.

On April 5, in Da Nang, Vietnam Television (VTV) held a press conference to introduce the Robocon Innovation Contest VN 2006. VTV’s Deputy General Director Tran Dang Tuan announced that a total of 320 teams have registered to participate this year, compared to 26 teams in 2002, 130 teams in 2003, 157 teams in 2004, and 303 teams in 2005.
Through the school-level qualifying rounds, 220 teams from 48 eligible schools were selected to participate in the national preliminary round; among them, vocational colleges and secondary schools contributed a larger number of teams compared to previous years, totaling 36 teams.
From April 10 to April 20, the preliminary round of the Robocon VN 2006 contest will take place in three regions: North, Central, and South. This is the first time the Robocon Innovation Contest VN has been organized across all three regions.
95 teams from the North will compete at the Military Technical Academy to select 14 teams, Central teams will compete at the University of Danang’s Physical Education Center to select 6 teams, and Southern teams will compete at the District 4 Sports Hall in Ho Chi Minh City to select 12 teams for the national finals to be held at the Nguyen Tri Phuong Sports Center (Da Nang) from May 29 to June 4, 2006.
In addition to a first prize worth 40 million VND, the champion team will receive further sponsorship of 1,000 USD to enhance their robot for participation in the Asia-Pacific Robocon Innovation Contest in Malaysia in August 2006. The theme of this year’s Asia-Pacific Robocon Innovation Contest is “Reaching for the Summit.”
This is the fifth year VTV has organized the Robocon Innovation Contest VN for students from universities, colleges, and vocational schools across the country, aiming to provide future engineers with the opportunity to implement bold ideas and build machines based on a given theme.
Meanwhile, a representative from Toyota Vietnam (TMV) stated that TMV has sponsored the Robocon Innovation Contest VN organized by VTV for the past five years, with a total sponsorship amounting to nearly 6.5 billion VND.
TMV plans to continue sponsoring the contest when Vietnam hosts the Asia-Pacific Robocon Innovation Contest in 2007.
