This multifunctional machine can both shell corn and thresh peanuts and soybeans, created by farmer Đinh Công Viên in Khả Phong Commune, Kim Bảng District, Hà Nam Province.
When his foot-operated rice thresher broke down, Mr. Viên sought to repair it and, in the process, discovered a new feature. He had the idea: “What if I bend the sharp teeth down and try using it to shell corn?” So, he dedicated himself to the task, using a hammer to reshape each tooth of the rice thresher. When he fed the corn cobs into the machine, it successfully shelled the kernels without breaking them. However, the kernels flew out in all directions. Mr. Viên then repurposed an old barrel lid to create a shield to prevent the corn from scattering.
Once the corn shelling machine was completed, his family was thrilled. They no longer had to endure the hassle of manually shelling corn. Moreover, the machine has a capacity of up to 1 ton per hour. Therefore, during harvest season, he travels around with his machine, offering corn shelling services to local farmers.
Not stopping there, Mr. Viên further improved the machine, transforming it into a multifunctional device that can shell corn, crush soybeans, and thresh peanuts. This upgrade required only a simple modification: adding a crushing attachment. His multifunctional machine now boasts impressive capabilities: it can crush soybeans at a rate of 1 hectare per day and thresh peanuts at 2 sao (approximately 0.2 hectares) per day.
Currently, the machine is available in many districts within Hà Nam Province at a price of 2.5 million VND per unit. With this machine, farmers can better manage their harvest timing and save on labor costs.
