The Ho Chi Minh City Medical Diagnostic Center has officially introduced three robots, with a total investment of over 1.5 million USD, to serve as “staff” in the laboratory, replacing technicians and medical examiners.
Pharmacist Nguyen Thanh Tong, Deputy Director of the Center and Head of the Testing Department, stated that due to the increasing demand for testing among patients, the center decided to invest in a robotic system that includes a biochemical analyzer integrated with an immune system machine.
These three robotic testing systems are equipped with mechanical arms that fully automate the tasks typically performed by humans. With these robots, it is possible to generate 4,300 test results in just one hour, equivalent to the workload of nearly 20 technicians per hour.
The robots can conduct various immunological and biochemical tests, such as HIV and tuberculosis testing, as well as measuring blood sugar levels, urea, and liver function. Moreover, thanks to the robots, the time from blood sample collection to result delivery has been reduced to approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, which is a 50% decrease from the previous duration of 3 hours.
In addition to speeding up the process, the robots also maintain a cleaner environment by using less blood and chemicals, leading to reduced testing costs and, naturally, a significant decrease in waste disposal into the environment. More importantly, the quality of the tests remains consistent, stable, and easily controllable.
These robots not only serve patients in Ho Chi Minh City but also cater to patients from other provinces, including those in remote areas or those who are economically disadvantaged and cannot travel to the city for treatment.
On average, the center serves about 2,500 to 3,000 patients daily. According to statistics, from September 2 to 13, the robots processed 66,270 test samples from patients in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as from other provinces and even patients from Cambodia and Laos.
