Customers will not wait more than 30 seconds to see your website fully displayed in their browser. They will immediately switch to another website.
A survey conducted by Tickbox revealed that up to 89.5% of respondents stated that they would instantly switch to another website or online store if their preferred site went down.
Mike Tobin, CEO of hosting provider TelecityRedbus, believes that the Internet has provided customers with numerous opportunities to shop around.
“Online brand loyalty is very fragile,” Tobin asserted.
A staggering 85% of over 2,000 respondents in this survey confirmed that a website going down has very negative effects on the company’s reputation.
“If a company’s website goes down for 10 minutes, it’s just a temporary issue. However, if that company’s website loads very slowly, it will mean that they are losing a significant amount of revenue. The root cause of this problem is customer frustration due to long wait times,” Tobin said.
The survey also identified the top three reasons why customers switch to another site: poor customer service (70.8% of participants agreed), slow website loading times (68.9%), and failure to deliver orders as requested (68.5%).
