Since the signing of the Schengen Agreement in 1985, the barriers to movement between countries in Europe have gradually been removed. To document this significant change, Dutch photographer Valerio Vincenzo decided to undertake a project titled “Borderline, the Frontiers of Peace”. As of now, this project holds great importance, especially in the context of the European Union (EU) facing a severe migration crisis.
Vincenzo states, “With the help of detailed maps and GPS, I have embarked on many journeys along these ‘erased’ borders with the aim of capturing the real images of the roads that are considered the threads holding peace together.” Let’s admire the 35 photographs below to explore the unique characteristics of European borders.
