1. Mind-Controlled Wheelchair
In 2012, the smart wheelchair was recognized as a groundbreaking scientific invention by Professor Hùng Nguyễn, a Vietnamese national working at the University of Sydney in Australia, along with his colleagues. This invention ranked third in the list of Australia’s top 100 inventions in 2011.
The smart wheelchair is a creative invention by Professor Hùng Nguyễn.
The wheelchair is designed to function like a moving robot, capable of avoiding obstacles detected through a camera mounted on it. The chair can move based on commands given by head movements, eye gestures, or even the thoughts of the user.
2. Invention to Help the Elderly See Without Glasses
For the first time in the history of ophthalmology, a Vietnamese-American doctor has invented a new method that allows those with vision problems to see without glasses. This is the work of Dr. Randal Pham, also known as Dr. Phạm Hoàng Tánh, the president of the American Vietnamese Medical Association.
The Medical Board of California has recognized this new technology (named Acrysof ReSTOR Lens). The lens developed by Dr. Phạm Hoàng Tánh can adjust both near and far vision, functioning like progressive lenses.
3. Invention of the ATM
The inventor of the ATM in the banking system is a Vietnamese man, Mr. Đỗ Đức Cường. He holds over 50 patents and has worked for 20 years at Citibank in the U.S. as a senior specialist in the American banking sector.
The invention of the ATM plays a crucial role in today’s banking industry.
He received a scholarship to study in Japan at Osaka University, where he simultaneously studied and worked for Toshiba. Subsequently, a surprising invention led him to the United States.
4. Invention of Fuel-Saving Device for Motorcycles
This invention is by Đặng Hoàng Sơn from Vĩnh Long city. In 2008, Mr. Wieger D. Otter, a senior quality supervisor from the International Quality Management System Certification Organization, awarded him the “Reliable Supplier” certificate.
This device helps motorcycle engines consume less fuel.
User reviews indicate that when installed, this fuel-saving device allows motorcycles to travel 65-70 km per liter of gasoline, even up to nearly 80 km. In contrast, a regular motorcycle only travels about 45-50 km per liter. This device reduces fuel consumption by 20-30%, ensuring complete combustion of fuel, increasing engine power, and extending the lifespan of the motorcycle.
5. Submarine Construction
Submarines seem like the most fantastical inventions, but Mr. Nguyễn Quốc Hòa, director of Quốc Hòa Mechanical Company in Thái Bình city, has successfully created them using simple materials. According to the design, the mini submarine Trường Sa displaces 12 tons when submerged and 9.2 tons when on the surface, with an operational radius of 800 km. The submarine can dive to a depth of 50 meters and has the capability to maneuver closely or remain stationary on the ocean floor, equipped with two 90Hp engines.
The farmer’s submarine from Thái Bình surprises the world.
When submerged, the submarine uses AIP technology, allowing it to stay submerged for 15 hours. The operational duration at sea is 15 days, with an average speed of about 20 nautical miles (equivalent to 40 km/h). The entire hull measures 8.8 meters long, 3 meters high, and 2.8 meters wide at its widest point. The hull is made of specialized imported steel with a thickness of 15 mm.
6. Aircraft Construction
After extensive research, in 2003, Mr. Trần Quốc Hải (from Suối Dây, Tân Châu, Tây Ninh) built the first helicopter. In 2005, a second, improved, and more modern helicopter was completed at a cost equivalent to… a car.
The price of this helicopter is only equivalent to a car.
Two helicopters “made in Vietnam” created by him have been “exported” abroad. The first was sold to the Museum of New York (USA), and the second to the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art (South Korea). The proceeds from selling the helicopters were used to create agricultural machinery and equipment.
7. Fire Extinguishing with Sound Waves
Recently, a Vietnamese student – Trần Việt and his classmate Seth Robertson created a special device that uses a subwoofer to emit low-frequency sound waves between 30-60 hertz, which can prevent oxygen from contacting burning fuel.
The use of sound waves to extinguish fire has surprised many.
This device can extinguish small flames and control fires caused by alcohol catalysts. In the future, Viet Tran’s team will test it on various fire cases caused by different factors.
8. Stem Cell Creation from Umbilical Cord Tissue
Dr. Phạm Toàn Thắng.
Dr. Phạm Toàn Thắng has earned worldwide admiration for successfully producing stem cells from umbilical cord tissue. The method of isolating skin cells from the cord tissue helps heal wounds caused by burns, diabetes, radiation ulcers, and even aids in beauty treatments.
Furthermore, umbilical cord stem cells are suitable for allogeneic stem cell transplants without the need for immunosuppressive drugs due to their low antigenicity and immunogenicity, resulting in a low rejection rate.
Currently, this technology is applied in many places around the world.
9. Water Measurement Methods in Agriculture
Dr. Chu Hoàng Long.
Dr. Chu Hoàng Long and his research team have been awarded the Eureka Prize for their research project: A flow model measuring the amount of water available for agricultural production and the amount of water needed for environmental conservation.
With this river flow model, farmers can determine the optimal amount of water needed for irrigation and the optimal amount necessary to protect the environment. At the same time, the model also helps create water flows that are beneficial to the environment.
10. Nanotechnology for Water Purification
Nanotechnology for water purification is one of the 11 most renowned inventions by Vietnamese people that has amazed the world.
Master Nguyen Thanh Dong and engineer Hoang Dieu Hung invented a method using nanotechnology to completely eliminate arsenic from water. This invention has helped the Czech Republic clean up areas polluted by thermal power plants and coal mines, which had contaminated the water supply with arsenic.
This invention has enabled the Czech Republic to purify areas affected by thermal power plants and coal mines, which resulted in arsenic contamination of the water supply. Therefore, their invention has been highly appreciated in the Czech Republic and other European countries.
11. Military Armored Vehicles
Military armored vehicles are among the inventions by Vietnamese people that have garnered international admiration. Thanks to their innovations, father and son Trần Quốc Hải have managed to revive vehicles that seemed destined for scrap metal, bringing joy to thousands of people in neighboring Cambodia. For their significant contributions, Mr. Hải and his son Trần Quốc Thắng were honored with certificates of appreciation and the Grand Military Medal presented personally by the King and Prime Minister of Cambodia.
