This cannon was discovered around 10:30 AM on July 16, in the area of the old Binh ferry terminal (Minh Khai Ward, Hong Bang District).
During the excavation and expansion work for the installation of a drainage system along the Tam Bac River renovation project phase 2, the construction crew found the cannon and subsequently notified the authorities and local government.
Upon preliminary inspection, it was confirmed that this was a cannon, and the authorities handed it over to the Hai Phong Museum for management.
The Director of the Hai Phong Museum, Bui Thi Nguyet Nga, stated that after the handover, initial assessments indicated that this cannon dates back to the reign of Emperor Tu Duc in the 19th century and is related to the construction and protection of the Ninh Hai ferry terminal.
The cannon measures approximately 1.9 meters in length, with a diameter of 0.18 meters at the muzzle and 0.26 meters at the breech.
“This cannon, based on preliminary assessment, is similar to several other Nguyễn Dynasty cannons currently on display at the museum. We will continue to conduct further research on this cannon,” said Ms. Nga.
