Just a few months after opening its branch in Israel, Google is facing a lawsuit seeking damages of up to half a million USD.
An Israeli women’s fashion store named Matim Li (ML) has filed a lawsuit in the Tel Aviv court, accusing Google of allowing a competitor to register a link bearing the ML brand on its search engine. When customers enter the keyword ML into Google, they are redirected to the competitor’s website.
ML is demanding that Google compensate them with 530,000 USD for the damages the store has incurred.
Google has stated that it is not responsible for the content or keywords that customers advertise on its platform.
