Windows Vista will provide users with a new level of security while putting an end to traditional virus and worm attacks.
This statement was made by Steve Ballmer, the CEO of Microsoft, during a talk in Silicon Valley.
“The security features will be the main reason why users should upgrade to Windows Vista. Additionally, there are new graphics and search capabilities,” Ballmer emphasized.
The Microsoft CEO also highlighted the fact that the Windows operating system is one of the top targets for hackers. However, this has allowed Microsoft to gather extensive information on hackers’ attack methods.
Windows Vista will bring many upgraded security features to users. By default, users log into the system with standard user status in Windows Vista rather than an administrative account as in previous operating system versions. The firewall system with the ability to filter incoming and outgoing information, Windows Defender AntiSpyware, and more are all integrated into Vista.
The version of Internet Explorer 7 has also seen significant improvements in security, including a feature that alerts users about websites suspected of phishing.
However, Ballmer also warned that hackers are continuously seeking new ways to attack users’ systems.
“The next wave of attacks may very well start from within the system itself. The security battle will shift to a fight against online fraud and malware.”
