Officials from 16 countries in the Asia-Pacific region have announced that they will enhance cooperation in the fight against cybercrime, which poses an increasingly serious threat to the stability and development of the region.
Following a three-day meeting in Manila, Philippines, police leaders from participating countries emphasized the urgent need to combat the use of the Internet for purposes such as sex trafficking, drug smuggling, the transfer of terrorist financing, and illegal stock trading.
According to an official from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), people in Asia use the Internet more than those in Europe, making it certain that organized terrorist groups in Asia utilize Internet technology for illicit activities.
The Director of the Philippine National Police, A. Lomibao, noted that delegations shared experiences and legal frameworks from their respective countries in efforts to prevent various forms of transnational crime.
