The civilization of humanity has entrusted science with the task of deciphering mysteries. Living up to that expectation, science has decoded most phenomena from the simple to the supernatural across the planet. However, some mysteries will forever remain unsolved. Despite the efforts of scientists worldwide, they are still unable to find answers.

  • 8 Cosmic Mysteries That Challenge the Scientific Community
  • 5 Archaeological Mysteries That May Never Be Solved

    • 2. Baghdad Battery, Also Known as Parthian Battery
    • 3. Crystal Skulls
    • 4. The Tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang and the Terracotta Army

    • 12. Stone Spheres in Costa Rica

1. Anomalous Signs in the Baltic Sea

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

A group of Swedish divers discovered a large disk-shaped object lying on the bottom of the Baltic Sea. It is described as being formed on a pillar, consisting of structures arranged in a staircase leading to a black hole. No one has been able to explain the origin of this phenomenon.

2. Baghdad Battery, Also Known as Parthian Battery

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

Archaeologists discovered a small clay jar containing a copper cylinder made in Mesopotamia, potentially functioning like a basic battery today. However, all hypotheses have not been accepted as there is no reasonable explanation for the wires and power source.

3. Crystal Skulls

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

These skulls are carved from clear quartz. Archaeologists believe these artifacts date back to the pre-Columbian era (the Aztec or Maya civilizations). The craftsmanship of these skulls is remarkably sophisticated, not at all crude when compared to the civilizations of that time. They are seen as symbols of power.

4. The Tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang and the Terracotta Army

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

At the site of this tomb, it is said that there was a river of mercury. Archaeologists have found a significant amount of mercury in the soil along with a miniature city marking the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. Additionally, what perplexes scientists the most is the famous Terracotta Army surrounding the tomb, with each figure having a unique face.

5. Ancient Airplanes

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

These models are ancient toys that simulate small-sized airplanes and are handcrafted. However, actual airplanes took to the skies in 1780. How did ancient civilizations, lacking complete understanding of aviation, create these models that resemble modern aircraft?

6. Coexistence of Dinosaurs and Human Footprints

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

Despite many fossils being proven as forgeries, there are also some fossilized footprints of both humans and dinosaurs found in ancient rock layers that archaeologists cannot prove to be fake. This remains a mystery, and if true, it would challenge the theory of evolution.

7. Radioactive Remains Found in Ancient Cities

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

At the two archaeological sites of Harrapa and Mohenjo-Daro, scientists have detected very high levels of radiation in the ruins, leading to theories suggesting an atomic explosion around 1500 BC. However, scientists have also provided various counterarguments for this hypothesis, and the debate continues to this day.

8. Interlocking Stone Blocks at Puma Punku

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

In Bolivia, there is a large complex of temples with intricate architecture, featuring stones that fit together seamlessly from the Inca civilization. The precision with which these stones interlock is astonishing, and scientists cannot explain how they were constructed in such ancient times.

9. The Voynich Manuscript

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

This code illustrated manuscript from the medieval period has yet to be accurately deciphered. It is considered a book on medicine. The manuscript has become one of the most famous cases in the history of cryptography.

10. The Antikythera Mechanism

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

This mechanism dates back to ancient Greece – similar to an ancient “computer” designed to predict astronomical positions and eclipses. It wouldn’t be unusual if the mechanism were made in later centuries. But what secrets did this device hold during its time?

11. Traces of Drugs and Tobacco in Egyptian Mummies

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

Residues of these substances have been found in Egyptian mummies. History has shown that there were no connections between Africa and South America in ancient times. How did they possess these substances remains a mystery?

12. Stone Spheres in Costa Rica

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

There are more than 300 stones here, located in the Diquís River plain and Isla del Caño. These spheres are known as Las Bolas. Many legends surround these stones, with some people believing they originated from Atlantis or were transformed from a deceased person.

13. Baigong Pipes

12 mysteries that science has yet to explain

The pipes are evidence of ancient Chinese water pipelines. These pipes are connected to three caves in the Baigong Mountains. They serve as evidence of various piping systems around the world. Many theorists suggest that these technological advances are remnants of extraterrestrial visitors to Earth.

14. Fields with Strange Shapes

A circular formation, up to 183 meters wide, resembling a giant jellyfish, has appeared in the barley fields at Kingstone Coobes, Oxford. This is one of the most unusual formations in the world.

Karen Alexander, an expert in studying crop circles, noted that while he has seen butterfly or bird-shaped circles, this is the first time he has encountered a jellyfish-shaped circle, and it is remarkably large.

Strange image believed to be left by extraterrestrials.

It may have been created overnight by a group of “aliens,” or it could be a natural phenomenon caused by an unusual lightning strike hitting the earth.
