Each layer of the new generation DVD discs currently has a maximum capacity of 25 GB. However, the Japanese company TDK has recently introduced a method that can combine 6 layers into a product with an unprecedented storage capacity.
The storage capacity of each Blu-ray layer produced using TDK’s technology reaches up to 33 GB. These discs are additionally covered with a protective layer to guard against scratches, dust, and other unwanted consequences. This 200 GB disc is made from bismuth peroxide, which melts only at a temperature of 690 Kelvin, equivalent to 416.85°C.
With 200 GB, users can easily store nearly all their favorite programs and movies. However, this is a write-once (recordable) disc, meaning that users cannot modify the content once it has been saved. If TDK continues to release a rewritable version, that product could potentially become the most expensive and desirable disc in the storage industry.
