On May 18, the Kovalevskaya Award Committee of Vietnam awarded the 2005 prize to Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong, Head of the Livestock Mechanization Research Department at the Institute of Agricultural and Post-Harvest Engineering (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development).
Throughout her 30 years of work, Dr. Hong has led 12 scientific research projects at various levels focused on designing and manufacturing machinery and equipment to replace certain imports from the United States and Thailand.
The award was also presented to the female team from the Petroleum Microbiology Department of the Institute of Biotechnology (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology). Based on their research results, the department developed 7 technological processes that have been applied in the practical extraction of oil and gas, environmental pollution remediation, and the preservation and utilization of petroleum. The female team utilized rapid microbial technology to enhance the growth of oil-degrading bacteria, contributing to the response to the DO oil spill incident in Vung Tau in September 2001.
