The Byakuya ice cream, priced at 880,000 yen (approximately 150 million VND), has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the most expensive ice cream in the world.
Very few people can indulge in this extravagant ice cream because one serving costs about 150 million VND, meaning that each bite will set you back around 5 million VND. The ice cream, named Byakuya, is a creative creation from the dessert shop Cellato, located in Tokyo, Japan.
The ice cream costs 880,000 yen (150 million VND).
According to the explanation on the shop’s website, the Byakuya ice cream features a velvety smooth base made from milk, two types of cheese, egg yolk, and sake lees, topped with Parmesan cheese, white truffles, truffle oil, and gold leaf. Those fortunate enough to taste it describe it as “having a subtle sweetness, complex flavors, and a luxurious, smooth texture.”
The fundamental ingredients of the Byakuya ice cream—milk, cheese, egg yolks, and gold leaf—are not particularly expensive. What makes this dessert luxurious is the white truffles. The manufacturer reveals that they use truffles sourced from Italy, imported at a cost of 12,000 euros per kilogram (over 300 million VND).
To enjoy this pricey delicacy, the accompanying utensils are also top-notch. The metal spoon is handcrafted by artisans from Takeuchi in Fushimi, using ancient techniques traditionally applied in the production of samurai tools and weapons. However, this exquisite spoon is not included in the price of the ice cream and requires an additional payment.
The ice cream is served in an elegant black box. The manufacturer recommends that customers allow the ice cream to sit at room temperature for a few minutes before consuming, then mix in the truffle oil to enhance the flavor. Additionally, a drizzle of aged white wine can be added. Cellato also advises that the ice cream should be consumed within 10 days of production for the best flavor experience.
