SEA Games 33 to be held in Thailand in December 2025.
On the evening of May 17, SEA Games 32 officially concluded with a closing ceremony held at Morodok Stadium in Cambodia. The flag of the Southeast Asian Sports Federation has been handed over to Thailand, the host of SEA Games 33.
This will be the seventh time Thailand has hosted the largest sports event in the region. With its existing organizational experience and abundant infrastructure, the Land of the Golden Temple promises to deliver a memorable SEA Games 33.
Where will SEA Games 33 be held?
Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla will be the three venues for SEA Games 33. Historically, the capital city Bangkok has hosted the regional sports festival five times. This will be the first time SEA Games will take place in the provinces of Chonburi and Songkhla.
The stadiums for SEA Games 33 include Rajamangala (Bangkok), Eastern National Sports (Chonburi), and Tinsulanon (Songkhla). Notably, the opening ceremony of the SEA Games will be held at all three venues. This promises to provide spectators with a fresh and unprecedented experience in SEA Games history.
Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok has a seating capacity of over 50,000.
When will SEA Games 33 take place?
SEA Games 33 is expected to commence from December 9 to December 20, 2025. Some sports may begin earlier than the opening ceremony. After two consecutive SEA Games held in May, the next event will start in late December.
What sports will be featured in SEA Games 33?
Recently, the Southeast Asian Sports Federation decided that starting from SEA Games 33, the event will focus only on organizing Olympic and Asian Games sports, limiting the presence of local sports.
Specifically, the sports will be divided into three groups:
- Group 1 includes two mandatory sports: athletics and swimming.
- Group 2 comprises at least 14 sports from the Olympic and Asian Games.
- Group 3 consists of optional sports but with a limited number.
SEA Games 33 is expected to feature 43 sports. These sports will be included by the host country Thailand in the national sports festival to prepare the facilities for the SEA Games.
