On the morning of May 14th, a pod of about 20 dolphins unexpectedly appeared, frolicking in front of tourists at the stunning Mũi Điện coastline in Đồng Hoa town, Phú Yên province.
Nguyễn Văn Duy, a tour guide, reported that at around 9:20 AM on May 14th, while he was leading a group of tourists to visit the National Scenic Area of Bãi Môn – Mũi Điện, he spotted the pod of dolphins.

“The dolphins swam from the southern waters heading north. We saw them around Hòn Nưa as they swam towards Mũi Điện. It seemed that they noticed many tourists were watching, filming, and taking photos, so they started to leap and dance on the surface of the water,” Duy said.
According to this tour guide, many tourists were thrilled to witness the dolphins’ performance against the picturesque backdrop of the Bãi Môn – Mũi Điện national scenic area.
Duy added that the dolphins danced for about 10 minutes before continuing their journey north.
Đào Quang Minh, head of the Phú Yên Fisheries Department, noted that dolphins usually travel in pods and have recently been sighted in the coastal waters of the South Central Coast provinces. In fact, a pod of 200 dolphins was seen dancing in the waters off Lao Mái Nhà (An Hòa Hải commune, Tuy An district) in September 2020.
Minh also mentioned that the presence and energetic display of dolphins in the waters of Bãi Môn – Mũi Điện indicate that this area has a good environment with plenty of prey for the dolphins to hunt for food.
The Bãi Môn – Mũi Điện national scenic area in Phú Yên is one of the top tourist attractions, both domestically and internationally, as it is one of the two locations where the sun first rises on the mainland of Vietnam (along with Mũi Đôi in Khánh Hòa).
