The National Cardiovascular Institute of Hanoi has recently transferred the non-surgical technique of closing the ductus arteriosus using the Amplatzer device to the medical team at the Pediatrics Department of Da Nang Hospital. This is the first time this interventional technique for treating congenital heart disease has been applied at Da Nang General Hospital.
Three cases utilizing the non-surgical ductus arteriosus closure technique with the Amplatzer device involved pediatric patients suffering from congenital heart disease with a patent ductus arteriosus. This is one of the most advanced techniques in the field of medicine for treating congenital heart conditions.
With this new technique, there are no surgical scars, minimal blood loss, and notably, the recovery time after treatment is only about 24 hours. Therefore, in the future, Da Nang General Hospital will be able to treat approximately 70% of cardiovascular diseases without the need for surgery.
However, the treatment cost for a congenital heart condition involving a patent ductus arteriosus typically ranges from 10 to 15 million Vietnamese Dong. This financial burden makes it difficult for underprivileged patients to access necessary care. Consequently, Da Nang General Hospital is calling for support from the community, social organizations, and the medical staff within the hospital to contribute funds so that more children with congenital heart disease can receive treatment using advanced techniques.
