Chemist Jack Ladenson from Washington University (USA) has successfully developed a test strip for measuring caffeine content in coffee. This achievement is based on the properties of antibodies found in camels, which effectively withstand high temperatures.
After introducing a significant amount of caffeine into the bodies of camels over several months, these camels produced antibodies against this foreign substance. Ladenson replicated these antibodies in the lab and studied their reactions with caffeine.
He explains that because the antibodies bind to caffeine, they allow for quite accurate measurement of this substance, rivaling sophisticated equipment.
