Since May 23, computer users in Myanmar have been unable to access the Internet for unclear reasons, despite the fact that the number of users and Internet infrastructure in the country is quite limited.
Internet service providers and government officials in Myanmar have not provided any satisfactory explanations for this abrupt disruption. Currently, Internet users in Myanmar can only access domestic websites, which are very few and mostly controlled by the government.
The prices of computers and Internet services in Myanmar are considered “sky-high” for the majority of the population. Most cities in Myanmar have Internet cafes, but all are strictly monitored by the Myanmar government.
Myanmar is one of the countries with the strictest Internet control policies in the world; even websites like Yahoo, Hotmail, and Google are deemed illegal and completely blocked.
Airports in Myanmar have been severely affected by this disruption, as computers there are unable to update flight schedules and arrivals for the country.
