The Lyrid meteor shower will peak this weekend.
Readers can visit the Time and Date website and enter their city or province to get detailed information about the direction and timing of the meteor shower appearing in their local sky.
Additionally, the meteor shower can still be observed in Vietnam on April 21 and 22, although visibility will be only moderate.
How to Watch the Meteor Shower?
You don’t need any special equipment to watch the meteor shower.
The key to enjoying this phenomenon is having good weather conditions and a clear sky during its appearance.
Moreover, you should find a location far away from city lights and arrive about 20 minutes early, looking up at the sky to allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness.
The Lyrid Meteor Shower
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) states that the Lyrid meteor shower has an average brightness, but there will be moments when it shines brightly like a shower that can be seen for several seconds.
On average, the Lyrids produce about 15 to 20 meteors per hour; however, some years have recorded enhanced activity, generating up to 100 meteors per hour, known as a “meteor shower outburst.”
These outbursts occur approximately every 30 years, but this is just an average, and the actual number of years can vary.
The meteors will begin to appear in the night sky near the constellation Lyra, northeast of the star Vega.
This is one of the brightest stars visible in the night sky at this time of year.
The Lyrids are formed from debris left by the comet Thatcher as it collides with the Earth.
