After nearly a month (from May 4 to June 5) of pilot implementation in three districts (District 1, District 5, and Binh Thanh District), on June 5, the Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City will simultaneously apply the method of randomly selecting vehicle registration numbers through computers for all districts across the city.
Lieutenant Colonel Vo Van Van, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City, stated: “As of now, 22 brand new computer systems and printers have been installed and tested at three vehicle registration points: 42 bis Tran Dinh Xu (Co Giang Ward, District 1); 282 No Trang Long (Binh Thanh District) and 36 Mac Cuu (Ward 13, District 5). It can be said that all preparations, from equipment to personnel, have been completed.”
Mr. Van also mentioned that the pilot program has shown that issuing vehicle registration numbers through computers has contributed to quickly processing vehicle registration applications for citizens in a fair and objective manner, ending the situation where vehicle owners and registration officials interfered in the selection of numbers, while also eliminating the problem of “brokers” or “number buying” at motorcycle or car dealerships.
