On June 1st, at the Hilton Hotel in Hanoi, USOL Vietnam officially launched its operations, along with the inauguration of the USOL Software Development Center – FPT Software, and a strategic cooperation agreement signing ceremony between the two parties.
As a member of the Nihon Unisys Group from Japan, USOL Vietnam will operate as a product development center, responsible for developing middleware for open systems, software for the financial industry, public administration, and industrial & commercial solution systems.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Nguyen Minh Hong, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information and Communications, stated that “this is a significant milestone marking the fruitful cooperation between the Nihon Unisys Group and FPT Software in particular, and between Japan and Vietnam in general in the IT sector“.
To penetrate the Japanese market, Vietnamese enterprises must overcome the most formidable barrier: language, as well as stringent technology standards. However, according to Deputy Minister Hong, the greatest benefit of collaborating with Japanese IT companies lies in the ability to learn, transfer technology, and seek outsourcing opportunities.
Agreeing with this viewpoint, Koichi Yokomizo, President and CEO of USOL Vietnam, committed that “the company will train Vietnamese IT engineers in the exclusive development methods and policies of Nihon Unisys Solutions” to ensure and enhance quality.
Moreover, through USOL Vietnam, the outsourcing opportunities for the IT market in Japan are “very large”, as USOL is currently handling numerous outsourcing projects for application software development for Japanese enterprise clients.
Mr. Yokomizo highly values the Vietnamese workforce for their “calmness, psychological stability, youthfulness, intelligence, and quick adaptability“. Additionally, he pointed out that one of the reasons Nihon Unisys “chose Vietnam to invest” is due to the very reasonable costs and low labor prices.

It is expected that USOL Vietnam will double its workforce by the end of the year. By 2008, the company’s personnel will reach 200 employees. Mr. Yokomizo confirmed that all these positions will be long-term (5-10 years).
When asked about the role of FPT Software in this partnership, Mr. Yokomizo mentioned that the two parties “are cooperating only in technology and not investing”. 100% of USOL Vietnam’s operational capital belongs to the parent company, Nihon Unisys Group. According to Mr. Pham Hung, an official at FPT Software, FPT will be responsible for developing a portion of the software package for USOL, accounting for about 5% of the workload.
“The most important aspect of our business strategy is U&U (Users and Unisys), meaning that the customer always holds the number one position. Customer satisfaction and employee happiness while working with us are our top priorities“, Mr. Yokomizo stated.
The Nihon Unisys Solutions Group was established in 1985, specializing in system development, application system construction, infrastructure systems (including networks, databases, and operational activities), and strategic integration systems (including ERP, SCM, and CRM).
