AMD chip integrated into the Jack PC |
While fully integrating all necessary electronic devices, the Jack PC – true to its name – is only as small as a wall socket. The entire PC is arranged on two circuit boards. Utilizing an AMD RISC processor, the Jack PC reduces energy consumption and heat output during operation. In fact, the energy consumption of the Jack PC is equivalent to that of a PC with average to low energy consumption.
Jade Integration’s CEO, Andy MacLellan, affirms that its low energy consumption is one of the breakthroughs achieved by the Jack PC. “A traditional PC consumes about 80 Watts of power, whereas the Jack PC consumes only 5 Watts. This creates a significant difference in operational costs.”
The entire Jack PC system was developed by Chip PC Technologies – a company specializing in an area known as “post-PC technologies.”
MacLellan mentioned that Chip PC Technologies successfully developed the first Jack PC about a year ago and has been researching to continually improve it.
“The Jack PC can be used like traditional PCs on standard power supplies,” MacLellan confirmed. “Or it can use power sources provided via Ethernet.”
A Jack PC without a monitor and keyboard is priced at approximately £209. Its low cost and energy consumption lead MacLellan to believe that the company’s new device will be one of the biggest successes in the PC industry in recent years. It is also the most compact PC that can replace traditional PCs, offering an effective solution for modern businesses.
The Jack PC runs on Windows CE and is designed to connect to any server environment. Additionally, the Jack PC is equipped with Internet Explorer 6.0, multi-screen support – for both digital and analog signal displays, 4 USB 2.0 ports, a 16-bit audio output, and a 24-bit video output. The maximum processing speed of the Jack PC’s processor can reach up to 500MHz – equivalent to a 1.2GHz x86 chip, with 64MB of internal memory and 128MB of RAM.
Although the Jack PC itself consumes less energy than traditional PC systems, if users want to run multiple applications, they will need to connect to another server. This may increase energy consumption.
