BitDefender Security Company Warns of Resurfaced Virus on HP’s Website
BitDefender, a cybersecurity firm, has issued a warning about a virus that first appeared on HP’s website six years ago, which has now been discovered in some device driver software sent to HP customers via the Internet.
The Funlove virus was recently detected hidden within device driver software downloaded through HP’s FTP server. BitDefender has informed HP about the resurgence of this virus strain.
“This case highlights the importance of checking files sent externally in a corporate environment and serves as evidence of the abnormal presence of malware-infected files,” said Bogdan Dumitru, Chief Technology Engineer at BitDefender.
The Funlove virus aims to gain administrative access on Windows NT systems, allowing remote access to read and modify files on the infected system whenever the user logs in. Funlove is capable of infecting Windows 9x/ME/2000 systems as well.
As of now, HP has not released any official comment regarding this incident.
