According to the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), on June 7, the MIC and Motorola Corporation will award scholarships to 31 outstanding students from the Information Technology (IT) faculties of leading universities in Vietnam and present awards to 10 companies excelling in software production and digital content in their activities for the year 2005.
On this occasion, the MIC and Motorola will also summarize Motorola’s sponsorship program for the third year (2005), valued at $200,000, aimed at supporting the development of Vietnam’s software industry. Additionally, they will launch a special sponsorship program worth $400,000 to promote the development of Vietnam’s software industry for the years 2005-2006, alongside the fourth-year sponsorship program (2006) worth $200,000.
The sponsorship funds will continue to be used for human resource development and to support the growth of the software and digital content industry. The MIC will work directly with Motorola’s experts to design an effective training and development program that meets the needs of Vietnam’s software and digital content industry.
The aforementioned special fund of $400,000 was presented to the MIC by Motorola during Prime Minister Phan Văn Khải’s visit to the United States last year. This fund will be utilized to implement strategic cooperation projects aimed at supporting Vietnamese software companies in outsourcing for the global software group Motorola Global Software Group (GSG) based in Australia.
Companies selected to participate in this program will be tasked with executing a software outsourcing project for Motorola GSG in the telecommunications sector. As part of this sponsorship program, the MIC and Motorola will also organize training courses in Vietnam and Australia on software production management processes according to CMMI standards for Vietnamese IT experts and managers.
The $200,000 sponsorship for 2005 has been utilized in various forms: awarding scholarships to talented IT students; recognizing companies with outstanding achievements in production and business activities, as well as the development of the software and digital content industry; and providing two training courses on software quality management processes for nearly 70 IT experts and managers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
For over 10 years, Motorola Vietnam has provided scholarships and sponsorship programs totaling $1.25 million for a range of educational projects and human resource development in Vietnam. Motorola will continue to collaborate with the MIC to support the human resource development project in Vietnam as well as the growth of the software and digital content industry.
