Sophos, a cybersecurity company, has discovered a new Trojan program: Arhiveus.a, which encrypts all files in the “My Documents” folder after it infects a computer. When users attempt to access files in this folder, a message appears warning them of the consequences if they try to report to the authorities.
The perpetrators demand that victims make purchases from one of three online pharmacies before providing them with a 30-character password to decrypt their files. This is the third Trojan of the “ransomware” type to emerge this year.
